What does the brokerage calculator include?
The estimate covers one purchase and one sale of the same whole-share quantity. You can enter different commission rates for each side, minimum commissions and additional fixed round-trip charges. Turnover means buy value plus sell value; it is not profit.
Brokerage and net profit formulas
Buy value = buy price × quantity. Sell value = sell price × quantity. Each side’s commission is the larger of its percentage commission and entered minimum commission. Total charges include both commissions and additional round-trip charges.
The break-even sell price solves for a zero net result using the same percentage rates, minimum commissions and fixed additional charges. Broker-specific rounding, multiple partial fills, annual account fees and taxes that vary with price can make an actual statement differ.
Worked brokerage example
Buy 1,000 shares at ৳100 and sell them at ৳110. At an illustrative 0.40% commission on each side, with no minimum or additional charge, buy commission is ৳400 and sell commission is ৳440. Gross profit is ৳10,000; total charges are ৳840; net profit is ৳9,160. The mathematical break-even sell price is approximately ৳100.8032 per share, before market tick-size rounding.
How to estimate your actual trading cost
- Enter the intended buy and sell price and whole-share quantity.
- Use the commission percentages on your broker’s tariff or contract note.
- Enter minimum commissions if they apply.
- Add charges not already included in the entered rates.
- Review net profit and break-even, then compare with your broker’s final statement.
Bangladesh trading-cost assumptions
This BDT calculator does not copy Indian STT, GST, stamp-duty or exchange-fee schedules. The example rates are not official DSE/CSE tariffs. Some brokers quote a bundled rate; adding the same components again would double-count them. Enter charges consistently and confirm all applicable costs with your broker.
Frequently asked questions
Is 0.40% the official brokerage rate?
No. It is an example. Replace buy and sell rates with your broker’s actual charges.
Does the tool automatically add tax or exchange fees?
No. It applies only the commission rates, minimums and additional charges you enter.
Why is net profit smaller than the price difference?
Gross price profit is reduced by buy commission, sell commission and other entered charges.
What is the break-even price?
It is the mathematical selling price at which proceeds cover the original purchase and all entered costs. Exchange tick-size rounding is not applied.
Can I use different buy and sell commissions?
Yes. The two percentage rates and minimum commissions are independent.
